Investing in our Future Facilities and Protecting our Community's Assets
On Tuesday, December 15, 2026, Hinsdale Central School District residents will have an opportunity to vote on a $10,360,000 proposed capital improvement project that would address critical asset preservation needs across our school.
A Message from the Board of Education
Dear Hinsdale Community,
As members of the Board of Education, we take seriously our responsibility to care for our schools, our students, and the investment our community has made in these facilities over many years.
The proposed 2026 Capital Improvement Project is not about adding unnecessary features or making improvements simply for the sake of change. It is about taking care of what we already have.
Our school building is aging. Approximately half of our roofs need replacement, with active leaks already occurring in several areas. Much of our heating and ventilation equipment has been serving our classrooms since the 1990s and is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and less reliable. These are critical systems that protect our building and allow it to continue serving our students every day.
We recognize that any capital project has a financial impact on our taxpayers, and we did not arrive at this proposal lightly. The Board worked carefully to focus this project on the District’s highest-priority needs, work that we believe should be addressed now, before smaller problems become larger and more expensive ones.
In many ways, this project is similar to maintaining a home. A roof is best replaced before water damages what is underneath it. Aging heating equipment is best addressed before it fails. Investing in these needs now helps preserve the much larger investment our community has already made in its school.
We have also worked to make this investment as responsible as possible for our community. New York State Building Aid is anticipated to fund 85.4% of eligible project costs, while capital reserves, retiring debt, and other available aid further reduce the local impact.
Hinsdale Central School is more than a building. It is a place where generations of our community have learned, gathered, competed, celebrated, and grown. Our goal is to make thoughtful investments today so that this facility can continue serving Hinsdale well into the future.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about this project and for your continued commitment to our students, our schools, and our community.
Sincerely,
Hinsdale Central School District Board of Education

The total referendum amount for this project is $10,360,000. The majority of the project's overall cost (85.4%) will be covered by available New York State Building Aid. The majority of the local share will be paid for using a combination of available capital reserves, remaining EXCEL funds, and retiring debt service. The remaining amount would be paid for through the local tax levy.
The average tax impact of this $10.36 million project is $0.23 per $1,000 of full property value before applicable STAR exemptions are applied.
That's less than a slice of Crosby's pizza per week.
