Hinsdale CSD will be a premier rural school district in New York State by 2020.Core Beliefs
TrustworthyWelcome to Hinsdale School, home of the Bobcats! I have proudly served as the principal of this school for the past 20 years. We are a rural Pre-K to grade 12 school with fluctuating enrollment from approximately 440 to 500 students. As a small school, all of us take great pride in the personalized education that each student receives. Our elementary program consists of full day Pre-K through grade 6. We support our students with additional math and reading support as well as Response to Intervention services for students who need small group learning assistance as well as classroom enrichment.
I am proud to say that we continue to seek to improve our educational experience for our students. Following the New York State Next Generation Standards, our teachers receive quality training for all of the state changes in curriculum. Hinsdale is known for its science program which begins in Pre- K. We offer many STEM activities across all grade levels. Middle school and high school students compete in our Hinsdale Science Fair, St. Bonaventure’s Science Fair, Alfred State’s Science Fair and local/state Envirothon. In addition, we provide our students the best foundation for reading, writing and math that begins in pre-k ending with solid college and career preparation.
We are ready to begin our 20-2021 school year with our New York State Education Department approved hybrid schedule. Students will attend school on an “AB-Zoom-AB” schedule with remote learning for three days to deliver five days a week of school.
All of us are so grateful to be having students phase back into our school safely. Covid 19 safety precautions are in place: from up-graded, ventilation filters and increased fresh air intake, to safe cleaning supplies for hand sanitizing, cleaning classrooms, halls, bathrooms and all parts of the building. The school buses are sanitized after every bus run.
Social distancing measures are throughout the building. The floors are marked for walking flow with arrows. Six-foot lines are visible in every hall for social distancing as well as hand sanitizing stations. All of the faculty and staff are prepared to assist with proper social distancing before/after and during the school day. Social distancing is also set in our busses keeping students in the same family together yet 6 feet apart from other students. Busses will carry fewer students on their bus runs to make the social distancing possible. Students, aides and bus drivers all must wear a mask while on our transportation.
Per the guidance of our health department: masks need to be two, cloth-layers thick or be a disposable protective mask. Bandannas or scarves are not permitted, as they do not have effective coverage or protection from the Covid virus. All of our students will receive two masks the first day of school: one is white, the second is blue with a bobcat. Both are washable.
In addition to all of the work for providing a safe school, we also have other great news! This year we welcome new staff:
- Carrie Oliver, who will teach grades 7-8 Family and Consumer Science and K-4 Technology.
- Susan Goodwin, who will teach all of our Business classes.
Internal teacher changes include:
- Amber Phillips, Kindergarten
- Stephanie Souder, Elementary 12:1:1
- Heather West, Elementary reading
- Sabrina Dunn, 6-9 Special Education
All of us at HCS look forward to a great year with the hope that we will be back 100% at some this school year. “Thank you” to all of the families for their patience and understanding as we navigate the Covid 19 course.
