Hinsdale CSD will be a premier rural school district in New York State by 2020.Core Beliefs
TrustworthyWelcome to Hinsdale School, home of the Bobcats! I have proudly served as the principal of this school for the past 18 years. We are a rural Pre-K to grade 12 school with fluctuating enrollment from approximately 440 to 500 students. As a small school, all of us take great pride in the personalized education that each student receives. Our elementary program consists of full day Pre-K through grade 6. We support our students with additional math and reading support as well as Response to Intervention services for students who need small group learning assistance as well as classroom enrichment.
I am proud to say that we continue to seek to improve our educational experience for our students. Following the New York State Next Generation Standards, our teachers receive quality training for all of the state changes in curriculum. Hinsdale is known for its science program which begins in Pre- K. We offer many STEM activities across all grade levels. Middle school and high school students compete in our Hinsdale Science Fair, St. Bonaventure’s Science Fair, Alfred State’s Science Fair and local/state Envirothon. In addition, we provide our students the best foundation for reading, writing and math that begins in pre-k ending with solid college and career preparation.
We, at Hinsdale, believe that our students must experience job and college opportunities at an early age. We run Career Day at HCS for our elementary students while our secondary students attend Manufacturing Fairs and Job Fairs. Students explore the various careers at our local CA BOCES and local industries. All of our students are given opportunities to visit colleges beginning in the elementary grades. Students will visit St. Bonaventure, Pitt-Bradford, Jamestown Community College, Alfred State, Alfred University and Houghton as well as several colleges in the Buffalo area during their educational career at Hinsdale School.
One unique aspect of our educational program is the implementation of Office Hours that are similar to what you would find at a college. The teaching faculty at all grade levels stay after school three times a month to offer additional assistance to students, including some enrichment. Students are invited to stay for Office Hours by their teachers or may choose to stay for additional support on their own. Our “in district” students are able to take a later bus home on these afternoons, thus saving parents from an additional trip to the school.
In addition to after school Office Hours, students at the elementary level are able to choose to stay for the Radiant Reader club where they read to therapy dogs, Archery Club, Scholastic Challenge, Girls on the Run, Lego League, Colorguard or Girls in Manufacturing. At the middle-high school levels we offer many clubs and sports. Our sports include: soccer, volleyball, basketball, bowling, golf, softball, and baseball. Where possible, we do have students attending neighboring schools for football, track and swimming. Extracurricular clubs and activities for secondary students offered are Archery Club, Foreign Language Club, Ski Club, The International Club, SADD, Yearbook Club, Drama Club, Hiking Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Girls in Manufacturing. We are always interested in forming new clubs for our students.
